  1.                        Welcome to COHOUSING!
  2.                     (This is a monthly posting.)

  4. The COHOUSING echo exists to provide a way for cohousers, cohousing groups, 
  5. and people interested in cohousing to meet,
  6.  network, and foster cohousing.  If your group is spread out geographically, 
  7. you are invited to hold electronic meeting s here.  Electronic meetings of 
  8. local groups are welcome as long as they don't cause problems for others.  
  9. The sharing of ideas, experiences, opinions, etc. is strongly encouraged.

  11. We have one 'rule' and several 'suggestions' in this conference.
  12.  
  13. Our one rule: 'Be nice.'
  14.  
  15. So far, COHOUSING has been a very friendly and well-behaved echoconference. 
  16. Here are a few suggestions to help us keep it this way:

  18. o If you feel a need to complain about anything you read in this
  19.   conference, please do so directly to the moderator (see addresses
  20.   at end of message) via private mail.  Please do not post such
  21.   complaints to this conference.  No exceptions, please.
  22.  
  23. o If possible, please use your real name in the 'From:' field of
  24.   message headers.  If the 'From:' field contains an alias, please
  25.   give your real name within the messages you post.
  26.  
  27. o Fidonet policy discourages commercial advertising; however,
  28.   advertising which offers potentially useful information or resources
  29.   to cohousers is permitted as long it does not become excessive in
  30.   length or in number.  'Excessive' is defined to be the point at which
  31.   user complaints occur.
  32.  
  33. o Personal messages which are not of interest to the majority of
  34.   users of this conference should be sent via private netmail.
  35.   Please ask your sysop if you do not know how to send netmail to
  36.   users of other systems.

  38.   This includes such items as 'the check is in the mail', 'what
  39.   is your mailing address?', 'tell your grandma hi for me', etc.
  40.   Traffic such as that should be sent via netmail.  Sysops, please
  41.   make netmail available to your users if at all possible.

  43. Here are some suggestions to help the conference run more smoothly:

  45. o Quoting a SMALL portion of the message you're replying to in order to
  46.   establish context is encouraged.  Big quotes run up the distribution
  47.   costs.  Quoting SEEN-BY and PATHS can mess up some Fidonet mailers,
  48.   so please don't.
  49.  
  50. o Begin the "Subject:" line of any post which is part of a closed (i.e.
  51.   limited participation) electronic meeting with:
  52.       M-
  53.   and the name or initials of the group which is meeting, for instance:
  54.       M-CCN dues refund policy
  55.   This is so people who want to find your meeting will have an easy
  56.   time doing so, and the rest of us won't accidently barge in.

  58. COHOUSING originates within Fidonet and is a local conference within Zone 1.  
  59. It is permissible to gateway this confere nce to other zones and/or nets as 
  60. long as gateway policies of all zones and networks are observed.
